1. EVAPORITE MINERALS OF SEARLES LAKE (located near the town of Trona, San Bernardino County) - Steve worked as a Geologist for Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp., former operator of the Trona facilities from 1979 to 1982 . (lecture with 85 slides)

2. DEATH VALLEY, LAND OF CONTRAST - (lecture with 85 slides)
Steve lived in the community of Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Monument (now referred to as a National Park) from 1978 to 1979 while working at American Borate Company's Billie mine, a borate mining operation. Death Valley is 120 miles long, consisting of low valleys, picturesque canyons, majestic mountains, unique plant and animal life, and interesting human history .

There are thousands of natural oil seeps in California from which crude oil, tar, natural gas and water rise to the surface of the earth. The most famous oil seeps are known as the LaBrea Tar Pits of Los Angeles.
