April 23 - 25, 2004 Attached are several pics from the field trip. They include a picture of the group of about 60 people, taken on Saturday, a picture of Bob, a couple pictures of people out collecting, one of a lone photographer out on a rock taking a scenic picture, and a picture of a rock that was already broken open, with crystals inside, found by one of the group. My friend Lea and I arrived on Friday morning, and busily began to set up our tent. As we struggled against the wind (which wasn't really very strong) to keep the tent in place, it was kindly suggested that we move over into the shelter of a small hill with the other tenters. That did help, and we could now get the tent up, and to keep it from sailing away like a big balloon we anchored it with big rocks. Our first stop on Friday was at a place where there were big and medium pieces of marble, just laying on the ground. I was impressed by the fact that everything we did collect while we were there was "just laying on the ground". On Saturday Lea found a nice piece of blue agate, that she was able to split open, and found cavities inside with some quartz crystals. I brought my dog Goldie, and there were several other family pet dogs along, and they all got along well. A memorable moment for me was when "Gecko" , a shepherd mix dog, hopped into the back seat of Lea's car to cool off, and kept company with myself and two other people that had the same idea as Gecko. He was stretched out fully in the backseat, and then decided to move up front closer to me, and curled up in the driver's seat, after giving me several friendly licks. My dog Goldie was in the shade under the car. I became very fond of Gecko in those short two days. Lea's car is all wheel drive, so we were part of the caravan going out in the field, and gave rides to some wonderful people during those trips. Catherine and her son Anthony from Costa Mesa on Saturday, and on Friday a great pair of teens from Vista. The potluck on Saturday capped it off for me with the chocolate pie with whip cream for desert. We didn't stay through til Sunday. Lea's car was loaded with rocks, and we were filled with happy memories. | |
